To mark the publication of his new autobiography, The Soundtrack of My Life (Simon & Schuster), Clive Davis appears at the Roxy Theatre to take us behind the scenes of his incredible life orchestrating careers, creating stars and building musical empires several times over, taking us behind the scenes with fascinating anecdotes about some of the most talented musicians of the last forty years. Davis’ career has spanned more than forty years, and he has discovered, signed, or worked with a staggering array of artists: Whitney Houston, Janis Joplin, Simon and Garfunkel, Barry Manilow, Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Dionne Warwick, Carlos Santana, The Grateful Dead, Alicia Keyes, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, and Aretha Franklin, to name a few. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, received a Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award, and hosted the world’s highest profile parties.

It will be a moderated discussion and Q&A with well known author, educator and music professional Tom Sturges

Brief Bios

Clive Davis started out as a lawyer, but then landed a job at Columbia Records and eventually became its president. While there, Davis signed Janis Joplin, Aerosmith and others to the label. In 1974, he started Arista Records. He mentored such performers as Barry Manilow and Whitney Houston. Davis created J Records in 2000 and now serves as the chief creative officer for Sony Music.

Tom Sturges is an author, teacher, a volunteer, a music business executive, and a lecturer. He was EVP and Head of Creative for Universal Music Publishing, signing Foo Fighters, Jack Johnson, 50 Cent, Owl City, and many others. He was President of Chrysalis Music, and signed Smashing Pumpkins and Outkast. Tom has been Executive-In-Residence 2010-11 at New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. He was also VP/GM of Shaqille O’Neal’s TWisM Records and Publishing. He now owns Tom Sturges Music, a JV with Downtown Music.
