Aretha make a historic appearance on David Letterman on September 29th to announce the album. And she will sing the lead single, which will blow your minds. I heard it today. Aretha has recorded her own spectacular version of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” Yes, that “Rolling in the Deep.” And with all respect to Adele, which Aretha gives, this version of the song is jaw dropping. It swings and rocks.

EXCLUSIVE: Aretha Franklin Will Drop “Surprise” Album on 9/30 with Sensational Adele Cover

Clive Davis, the five-time Grammy winner credited with discovering Whitney Houston in the early 1980s, will release her first-ever live album nearly three years after the death of the legendary singer.

“She was without question the greatest vocalist in the world,” Davis told TODAY’s Hoda Kotb during a special visit Tuesday to announce the release of “Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances,” which will be out Nov. 10 as a CD and DVD.

The best instrumentalists don’t just play — they speak. Instruments can move freely without language or diction hampering them, but that also makes it more challenging to deliver a message or establish an identity. Yet the sound of Carlos Santana’s guitar is unmistakable: angular melodies with a signature piercing tone, easy to distinguish no matter the genre, from rock to Latin to jazz.

No wonder that “Corazón,” billed as Santana’s first Latin album, is all about that guitar, despite boasting star vocal collaborators from around the world. The instrument’s leading role lets “Corazón” be much more than what would typically qualify as Latin (music sung in Spanish), as the guitar’s universal language turns the album into a global mixtape: You never know what you’re going to get, or from where.

It’s the toughest ticket of the Grammy weekend, Clive Davis‘s pre-Grammy party. For some reason this year is bigger than ever with more bold faced names on the waiting list as the RSVPs come pouring in. Today Jennifer Hudson stopped by to do press with Clive. She’s singing at the show at the Beverly Hilton, sporting a new hot hair cut and her Weight Watchers figure more svelte than ever. I did ask if she’d like to have dessert some time and she told her favorite: cheesecake! Wait til she tries Eileen’s Special Cheesecake in Soho. So much for Weight Watchers!
